To sum up some key questions:
1) Why are die-hard EVE veterans so against this idea? What is so wrong about it?
2) Why does CCP not endorse this idea?
3) Would YOU play on the new server? Why? Why not?
2007 player reporting in. I DO NOT support your idea, mainly because it's ******ed and partly because you implied you speak for "newer players" when you most certainly do NOT.
1. What's wrong with it? a) any individual sense of accomplishment to date will be renderd to be worth about the same as the average dog's feacal matter. b) newer players start off even, granted, then what happens after the first week? Oh dear, the new guy in a frigate can't match the vet in a cruiser. It solves nothing. c) starting a server from scratch means it's completely barren. No market, no ships, no guns, no nothing. Want to pvp? Sorry, no toys for you, build them yourself. How many instant gratification junkies will be able to mine enough for a cruiser before they go off to another game? The server will fail.
2. Because a) they lose out on marketing the whole one server thing, which makes it different from just about every other MMO out there. b) Setting up a new server that likely isn't going to attrach a big crowd and probably lose a lot from the first one too isn't going to be cheap in terms of hardware. c) it's a crap idea.
3. HELL NO. I wouldn't play on a new server, what would be the point? I don't care if people are ahead of me in terms of SP, I fly what I want to fly, how I want to fly, and if I can't fly it, I'll train for it so it's sweeter when I finally jump into the ship.
People who moan about SP advantages other have are beyond me. I have a decent amount of SP I think, yet I still fly T1 frigates into combat half the time, and you know what? It's fun to fly them!
Yeah, this is probably feeding a troll, but I don't care.
TL;DR
******ed idea. Why does it keep coming up?
